STATEN ISLAND - Cruises
5 days - 4 nights

The Staten Island Reservation includes not only the Staten Island itself but also a number of Islands that surrounds it and the New Year’s Day Archipelago. Altogether, they cover 50,736 acres.
Staten Island is the largest and it’s located in the most eastern extreme of the Southern Andes. Its humid climate, with an annual precipitation close to 2,000 mm, supports evergreen forests, consisting mainly of guindos (Nothofagus betuloides) and canelos (Drymis Winterii). A dense fern, lichen and moss Soto Bosque give it an exuberant appearance which will turn out to be almost stunning for the eye of the unprepared explorer. Turf and coastal grasslands will surprise with their presence too.

The Island’s jagged coastline with fjords, coves and bays, offers the perfect habitat for coastal species, with an important community of invertebrates which become the food for a wide diversity of seabirds and other species.

The Island counts also with different historical sites of interest for those who have an adventurous spirit, bound to human townships during the 19th and 20th centuries dedicated to seal and penguin hunting. Furthermore, the history of countless shipwrecks goes back to famous pioneers such as Jacobo Le Maire, García de Nodal, L´Hermite, Bouwer, Anson, Byron, Pizarro, James Cook, Colnett, Malaspina, Juan José Elizalde, Henry Foster, Luis Vernet, Cap Parker King, Cap Fitz Roy, Charles Darwin , Luis Piedrabuena. Holmberg, Beauvoir, Adrian Gerlache, Fagnano, among others…it’s a dreamed voyage where you may become one of them!

Ushuaia – Le Maire Strait
We depart from Ushuaia Harbour towards the eastern mouth of the Beagle Channel. We’ll also navigate across Le Maire Strait by night time.
Franklin Bay, Crossley and San Antonio Bays
In the morning we arrive at Franklin Bay, going on our course to Crossley Bay, where we will
land to walk along the beach, visit the archaeological site, enjoy the landscape of rounded hills separated by wide turbal valleys and discover one of the most interesting bird species of the place: the turkey vulture. We board the M/V “Ushuaia” to head for the other end of the island, Port San Juan de Salvamento.
Exploring Port San Juan de Salvamento, Port Vancouver and Port Cook
We wake up seeing the famous end of the world lighthouse, which used to inspire Julio Verne. We land in the port and after a 25’ walk we will arrive at the lighthouse surrounded by a warm landscape. Back on board, the adventurers will have the opportunity to take a look at a colony
of sea lions and Rockhopper penguins from their zodiacs. After a short navigation, we reach Port Cook. We will land on the gravel shore and visit the site and the ruins of the old 1900-1902 military prison. After a walk through an elevated and narrow beach which separates the northern and southern coastal areas, we’ll reach Port Vancouver.
New Year Isles, Port Hoppner, Le Maire Strait
In the morning, we will board the zodiacs to the Observatory Island coast where we will encounter rock cormorant, southern giant petrel and Magellan penguin colonies, as well as sea
mammals such as south American seals. We will continue in zodiacs up to Port Hoppner, landing in the inner part of the fjord to enjoy a scenery of unmatched beauty, characterized by its jagged and sharp picks that fall abruptly into the sea and by woods that thrive.
Arrival at Port Ushuaia
During the night we will cross Le Maire Strait, then sail along the Beagle Channel in the morning up to our final destiny: Ushuaia city.
