AUSTRALIS IN 5 DAYS - From Punta Arenas to Ushuaia
From Punta Arenas to Ushuaia, sailing along Cape Horn
Punta Arenas, Ainsworth Bay, Tucker Islet, Pia Glacier, Cape Horn...
Australis in 5 days is the longest itinerary of the Australis Cruises. We will set sail in the Chilean city of Punta Arenas, right in the Southern Patagonia, and head for Ushuaia in Tierra del Fuego Island. This program not only includes one more day, but also a different itinerary. On our second day of sailing, we will get to the Almirantazgo Sound . We will get to Marinelli Glacier and head for Ainsworth Bay in Darwin Mountain Range.

Then we will enter the main route of the Beagle Channel to get first to Pia Bay and watch the homonymous glacier. Then we will see the famous Avenue of the Glaciers, where we will watch the Spain, Romanche, Germany, Italy, France and the Netherlands Glaciers, in the northern branch of the Beagle Channel.

On our last day of sailing, we will disembark at the Cape Horn National Park. Finally, we will get to the southernmost city of the world: Ushuaia, in Tierra del Fuego Island. If there is time to spare, we recommend staying a bit longer in Ushuaia to discover the beauty of its natural landscapes and enjoy the end of the world, and then head for Calafate and be dazzled by Perito Moreno Glacier; this is a really unique and full journey on the Australis.
Punta Arenas
We will go onboard the Australis Cruise (Mare Australis/Via Australis) to start our adventure. We will check in after midday. Then we will head for the End of the World, sailing the waters of the Strait of Magellan, Cape Horn and the Beagle Channel towards our final destination: Ushuaia.

The Strait of Magellan is a navigable route immediately south of mainland Chile and north of Tierra del Fuego; this waterway is the most important natural passage between the Pacific and the Atlantic oceans.

Cape Horn is the southernmost archipelago in Tierra del Fuego, being the southernmost tip of South America it delimits the northern passage of the Drake Passage which separates America and the White Continent.
Ainsworth Bay and Small Island Tucker
On the second day of our journey, we will wake up near Almirantazgo Sound. Later we will disembark at Marinelli Glacier in Ainsworth Bay, where we will do some trekking to discover the elephant seal rookeries and dams built by beavers surrounded by the Magellan forest around this incredible landscape.

Ainsworth Bay is located right in Darwin Mountain Range; there we can see, in the distance, the ice block with its high wall of more than 40 meters. Then we will head for Small Island Tucker, where we will watch Magellan penguins and cormorants, on board Zodiac ships. Penguins migrate in April; therefore, instead of taking this route, we will visit Brookes Bay, where we will disembark to walk around the proximities of the Glacier.
Pia Glacier – Avenue of the Glaciers
On our third day, we will go sailing through the main route of the Beagle Channel, entering Pia Bay to disembark very close to the homonymous glacier. Pia Glacier is in the northwestern branch of the Beagle Channel, entering the Darwin Mountain Range and going down the waters of Pia Bay.

We will set for our excursion to enjoy the magnificent view of the mountain range from the viewpoint. Here is the origin of the glacier, then moves totally until it flows into the sea. We will be dazzled by this unique experience. Then we will continue with our itinerary to the northeastern part of the Beagle Channel, where we will be dazzled by the stunning Avenue of the Glaciers, which comprises Spain, Romanche, Germany, Italy, France and the Netherlands.

Cape Horn – Wulaia Bay
We will continue with our itinerary along the Beagle Channel and Murray Channel, where we will get to the Cape Horn National Park and, whether permitting, we will disembark there to enjoy this natural wonder. Cape Horn appears like a big hill of about 425 meters high. This is a really spectacular place known as the End of the World.

It was declared Reserve of the Biosphere by UNESCO in June, 2005. In the afternoon, we will go down to Wulaia Bay, a perfect place to enjoy, which was the establishment of one of many and biggest civilization in the region.

There we can watch and admire the beautiful wildlife of this area. Then we will set for the Magellan forest, where are lengas, coihues, ferns, among other species, up to a viewpoint to enjoy an excellent view of the magnificent natural landscape.

Back to Ushuaia
In the morning, we will get to Ushuaia, the southernmost and most important city of Tierra del fuego. Once we have disembarked, we will walk around the city and visit the national parks and go beyond the Patagonia.
