THE END OF THE WORLD, SOUTH PATAGONIA & STRAIT OF MAGELLAN IN 10 DAYS
Strait of Magellan, Cape Horn & Beagle Channel
Punta Arenas
Check in at Magallanes 990, Punta Arenas, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Cruise ship boarding at 6:00 p.m. The Captain and crew give a welcome cocktail reception on board. Immediately afterward, the ship departs for “the uttermost part of the earth”. Our excursion will take us through the Strait of Magellan and Beagle Channel to explore one of the most breathtaking wilderness regions in the world: Southern Patagonia, and Tierra del Fuego. We have just embarked on a Great Adventure!
Ainsworth Bay & Tucker Islet
At dawn, we continue navigating through Almirantazgo Sound until finally arriving near Marinelli Glacier in Ainsworth Bay, where we enjoy a walk to discover a beaver dam in the midst of a marvelous Magellanic forest. On the beach we observe a colony of elephant seals. Later we visit Tucker Islet, where we view colonies of Magellanic Penguins and Cormorants from the Zodiac boats. The islet’s penguins migrate in April; as a replacement we visit Brookes Bay, for a short walk to see a glacier.
Pia Glacier & Glacier Alley s
We navigate through the main part of Beagle Channel to reach Pia Bay, where we disembark near Pia Glacier. We take a short hike to a lookout point with a spectacular view of the entire glacier tongue, stretching from high in the mountains all the way to the sea. After this unforgettable experience, we sail again along the northwest arm of Beagle Channel through majestic “Glacier Alley”: Spain, Romanche, Germany, Italy, France and Holland glaciers.
Cape Horn & Wulaia Bay
We sail through Beagle and Murray channels to reach and disembark in Cape Horn National Park (weather permitting). Cape Horn, on Hornos Island, is a sheer, 425-meter (1,394-foot) high rocky promontory at the point where the Atlantic and Pacific oceans merge. This mythical place is known as the “End of the Earth”; a visit is a singular privilege. The park was declared a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in June 2005.

In the afternoon, we go ashore in historic Wulaia Bay, once the site of one of the region’s largest aboriginal settlements. This area is also renowned for the mesmerizing beauty of its vegetation and geography. We walk through a Magellanic forest of Lengas, Coigües, Canelos, ferns and other native vegetation to reach a lookout point.
Ushuaia, Argentina - City Tour
Early arrival to Ushuaia, the most important Argentinean city on Tierra del Fuego island and the southernmost city in the world. Disembarkation after breakfast, from 8:00 a.m. onwards. Our great adventure ends. In the afternoon, we'll spend the morning in the city, visiting the legendary and ancient Jail of Recidivists, that keeps its impressive architecture as well as the tough history of the south of the American Continent. We'll visit the harbour, the Paseo del Centenario (a fantastic panoramic point) and the Bebán house that was bought in Sweden and built in 1911.
National Park of Tierra del Fuego - Train at the End of the World - Exit to Calafate
Breakfast at the hotel. We'll take the Train at the End of the World, from the central station to the National Park of Tierra del Fuego. The Austral Fueguino Railroad is attractive not only because of its elegance and style but also because it evokes the history of the early days of Ushuaia related to the old jail and the train of the convicts. We'll cross Pipo River to reach our first stop: La Macarena. The second stop will show us the remains of the old sawmill. Then the train leaves the river to get to a beautiful forest. From that point we'll continue our journey to the National Park of Tierra del Fuego where we'll find the Pipo Falls, Bahía Ensenada, Roca Lake, Negra Lagoon and, finally, Lepataia Bay. Transfer to Ushuaia Airport. Reception and transfer from Calafate Airport to the hotel.
Perito Moreno Glacier & Navegation to the Ice Floe's Canal
Breakfast at the hotel. We'll visit one of the greatest marvels of the world: the Perito Moreno Glacier, declared World's heritage. Its characteristic is the breaking of its external walls due to the pressure of the water of the river. We’ll then go to the floating quay of the southern branch of the Argentinian Lake, to navigate across the Ice Floe’s Canal up to the front of the Glaciar Perito Moreno to see it’s typical iceslides.
Navegation to Argentine Lake
Breakfast at the hotel. We'll go to Punta Bandera to make for Argentino Lake. First we'll go to the northern part of the lake where we'll see the icebergs floating adrift and then to the Upsala Glacier. Then we'll go back to Onelli Bay where we'll go ashore. Through a forested path we'll reach one of the most beautiful panoramic points of the tour: the confluence of the Glaciers Onelli, Agassiz and Bolado. On our way back to the hotel we will be able to see the Boca del Diablo.
