Puesto Covunco
Drive with exclusive van from Neuquen to Puesto Covunco. We start to hike toward the Covunco stream valley. We trek through rocky terrain. We cross the river through big rocks keeping on the river left bank. Slowly we ascend with no abrupt slopes, where the valley turns left.
The landscape gets desert and our mountain, the Domuyo volcano, begins to show. Every once in a while we cross smaller creeks that allow us to take a breath and drink some fresh water.
At the end of the valley there is a series of small lagoons, the last lagoon has a beautiful, very intense turquoise color, at that spot we set our base camp at 3100 meters height above sea level. Dinner and lodging in high mountain tents. |

Camp 2
After a hearty breakfast we set our backpacks and begin our ascent through rocky terrain, in some parts with loose pebble rocks, up to Camp 2 at 3800 meters height above sea level. We start to feel the height influence and there it may be windy.
It is very important to have a proper hydration to improve our acclimatization process to the height. We have an early dinner, we go early to sleep so we are well fit to try the summit the following day. Lodging in high mountain tent.

Cross at the top - Domuyo

The slope gets steeper somewhere in the middle of this section. While we approach the summit we will see the Cross at the top, from there it is just a few more steps to reach the "roof of northern Patagonia".
From here we get a wide panoramic view. We have lunch at the summit and then we descent to camp 1, we descent slowly and pack the tents to get then in the afternoon to base camp. There we get a great meal and stay for the night to rest and get fit again for the following day. Lodging in tents.
