Lima
Breakfast at the hotel. We will get to know
the Colonial Lima, reminiscent of the viceroyalty
times. We will start our tour visiting Plaza
Mayor, which is located exactly where Francisco
Pizarro founded the city of Lima in 1535.
We will also get to know its Cathedral,
the Government Palace (the change of guard
is an attractive ceremony that takes place
every day at 11:45am).
We cannot miss San Francisco Convent
with its beautiful cloister, its office
and catacombs, which served as cemetery
during the Colonial period, and the pyramid-shape
Huaca Huallamarca from the pre-Inca times,
entirely built on sun-dried brick.
After going around the historic center,
we will head for the modern neighborhoods
such as San Isidro and Miraflores with
their charming beaches and the busy commercial
and night life. We will end our tour in
the romantic Love Park, which has a magnificent
sculpture that represents the Andean Lovers
with view to the Pacific Ocean which we
cannot miss.
In the Gold Museum, we can find gold
pieces from different Inca cultures of
Peru. Larco Herrera Museum shows an important
collection of ceramics, fabrics and craftsmanship
in precious metals.
In the evening, we will have a short
walk around the bohemian Lima and get
to know the district of Barranco, which
due to its romantic atmosphere was the
place that poets, writers and artists
have chosen to live in. The Barranco area
has kept its ancient parks and trees;
and the places that stand out are the
Bridge of Sighs, the famous Domeyer Street
and Bajada de los Baños.
Later we will go to a restaurant to taste
some rich Peruvian food. We will taste
the traditional liquor that is the base
of the worldwide known Pisco Sour. We
can enjoy the Peruvian folklore. Those
people who want to visit a Peruvian disco
and enjoy the nightlife in Lima can stay
and listen to good music.
