This railroad of incredible engineering was created in 1941 to be used by heavy trains to carry minerals. It travels 220 km crossing valleys, canyons and the Puna and goes through places like the Quebrada del Toro, the zigzag of Alisal station and the La Polvorilla viaduct.

At the Alisal station, the train changes to a parallel track and the locomotive goes to the back of the train to lead it inside a tunnel. Once it crosses the tunnel the locomotive goes back to normal position. During the year, the aborigines sell their crafts, especially ponchos.

A winding way skirting strange mountain shapes will lead us to the Devil’s Gorge and El Anfiteatro where you will hear the echo of any sound with a perfect acoustic.

Little by little, the dryness of the landscape is replaced by great extensions of vineyards, which tells us we are near Cafayate. Land of the sun and wine that will offer us its craftsmanship, the archeological museum, the five-nave cathedral, and the most antique and famous wineries which will inebriate our souls with oak and torrontes wine.
